Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza inaugurated a 66 kV and 220 kV electricity sub stations at the Bahrain International Airport. Electricity and Water Authority Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Nawaf bin IbrahimAl Khalifa was present.
The minister said the inauguration of these stations comes within the framework of the government's plan and the interest of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, to provide electricity to citizens and residents in all regions of Bahrain and to ensure the sustainability of this service despite the great urban development and to provide commercial and other projects as well as to serve the Bahrain international Airport expansion project.
Work on these stations was coordinated with different parties to complete everything on time. He said it is hoped that a 220 kV station at Danat city and a 66kV station at Ras Zwaid 66 kV would be launched this year. These would provide power required for housing and industrial projects in the Hamala and Isa Town regions.
A number of leading international companies have manufactured, supplied and installed all equipment for these plants. Sumitomo GE supplied switches and transformers while the Saudi Cable Company supplied cables. Shabu Construction Company completed civil works and Bahraini company, Olcolmd, carried out the work of laying electrical cables. ESBI oversaw the entire project, which has been completed at a cost of BD5.14 million.
Member of the Municipal Council of the Southern Governorate Ahmed Yousef Al Ansari, the fourth district representative Yousif Ibrahim Al Sabbagh, senior officials of the EWA, representatives of the implementing companies and the consulting company supervising the project attended.
